On 4 September 2018, Prasanna Oommen hosted the KIWIT (Kompetenzverbund Kulturelle Integration und Wissenstransfer / Competence Network for Cultural Integration and Knowledge Transfer) conference at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures) in Berlin. The event was funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
This conference on cultural equality in the cultural domain was attended by around 120 cultural stakeholders from all over Germany who work in the fields of artistic practice, politics, government or teaching. The question to be addressed was why the diversity of society is hardly reflected at all in the structures and programmes of the country’s cultural institutions or in the numerous cultural education projects. Ways of breaking up the homogeneity of programmes, audiences and personnel were explored during keynote speeches, talks and practical workshops.
