Moderation of the opening of the LWL theme year

Entitled "POWR! Postcolonial Westphalia-Lippe" , the cultural foundation of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe (LWL) is bringing together a total of 22 cultural projects for the 2024 theme year that focus on the region's colonial past and its impact and significance for our society today. Together, the aim is to raise awareness of colonial heritage, discuss issues of remembrance culture and provide space for ideas for current and future coexistence.

The LWL Cultural Foundation, the LWL and other contributors presented the program to a large audience on 16 January with discussion rounds and artistic interventions. Prasanna Oommen moderated the opening of the theme year at the LWL-Landeshaus Münster. The event was accompanied by the premiere of the touring exhibition "Holistic post-colonial image of Africa in the German public sphere" by the Yes Afrika e.V. initiative from Hamm in the Landeshaus of the LWL.

The varied program consisted of contributions and discussions led by Prasanna Oommen among others with Dr. Georg Lunemann, Director of the LWL and Chairman of the Board of the LWL Cultural Foundation, and with Dr. Barbara Rüschoff-Parzinger, LWL Head of Cultural Affairs and Board Member of the LWL Cultural Foundation, as well as cultural interventions by the Physical Theatre Netzwerk e.V., Burg Hülshoff - Center for Literature, Eine-Welt-Netz NRW e.V., Kreativ-Haus Münster e.V. and the LWL Cultural Department, which presented excerpts from their projects.
