Cultural Policy Hosting Event

Closing event for the EU ‘Twin it!’ campaign

The ‘Twin it! 3D for Europe's culture’-campaign is anchored in the European Commission's Recommendation (2021) on a Common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage, which calls on Member States to achieve ambitious 3D targets by 2030, in particular the 3D digitisation of all monuments and sites considered to be at risk. As part of the campaign launched in June 2024, representative examples of European cultural heritage in 3D have been collected and Member States have been supported in their efforts towards 3D digitisation and preservation.

The final event organised by the European Commission and the Europeana-Stiftung under the patronage of the Belgian Presidency of the Council presented the campaign's achievements to date on 14 May 2024 in Brussels. Prasanna Oommen moderated the event. It was attended by culture ministers, high-ranking representatives of the EU institutions, political decision-makers at European and national level and a select group of experts and innovators at the interface between cultural heritage and technology.

At the heart of the event was a panel discussion moderated by Prasanna Oommen on the topic ‘Upscaling 3D for Europe's culture by 2030’with political decision-makers and experts, in which future challenges and forward-looking topics related to 3D digitisation were discussed with the involvement of the audience. The overall aim of the discussion was to publish a policy manifesto outlining the current state of 3D digitisation in Europe, the main challenges in meeting the 2021 Recommendation targets and the main proposals for the way forward.
