Organized by the International Photoscene Cologne and moderated by Prasanna Oommen, the panel discussion "Does Climate Change Need New Images?" took place in Cologne-Ehrenfeld on May 29, 2021.
The focus was on the question of whether climate change needs to be represented in a different way. Do new images and concepts need to be associated with climate change? Do images of giant plastic islands, burning forests or melting ice floes strengthen or weaken our awareness of what is going on in the world?
Prasanna Oommen discussed these and other questions with guests Vivian Balzerkiewitz (photo editor at Greenpeace), Pauline Bünger (co-founder of Fridays For Future), Tim Wagner (freelance photojournalist) and Maria Teresa Salvati (editor-in-chief of the Slideluck Editorial platform).
