On November 18, 2021, the democracy conference "Auf Dem Prüfstand: Zum Umgang mit Radikalisierung in Zeiten der Pandemie" (On the Test Bench: Dealing with Radicalization in Times of Pandemic) addressed radicalization and anti-democratic attitudes in the population in times of crisis.
This conference is regularly organized by the Partnership for Democracy Frankfurt; a cooperation project of the Office for Multicultural Affairs (AmkA), the Anne Frank Educational Center and the Frankfurt Youth Ring.
Prasanna Oommen moderated the titular panel discussion at the conclusion of the Democracy Conference with the following guests:
- Dr. Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg (Mayor and Head of Department for Diversity, Antidiscrimination and Social Cohesion)
- Gerhard Bereswill (Chief of Police of the City of Frankfurt)
- Prof. Dr. Meron Mendel (Professor of Social Work at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and Director of the Anne Frank Educational Institution)
- Thomas Mücke (Co-Founder and Executive Director of Violence Prevention Network)
Among other things, the following questions were addressed: Which building blocks from the fields of political education, prevention and deradicalization work are necessary in dealing with old and new forms of radicalization? What needs to be put to the test? And: which strategies are of particular relevance for the city of Frankfurt?
