Discourses on identity or discussions on racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination have dominated the cultural scene for several years now, as have debates on different positions in the postcolonial discourse. Increasingly, power structures in theatres and cultural institutions in general are being discussed and at times also changed.
In order to further this process, the NRW KULTURsekretariat, in cooperation with the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft e.V. and DIE VIELEN NRW, organised the interactive discussion series "Was heißt hier: WIR?“ (= What does WE mean?).
On January 26, 2022, Prasanna Oommen moderated the second part of the series. Together with executives from culture and administration as well as freelance artists who provided impulses and questions for the panel as Critical Friends, the panel addressed the topic of "Power and Structure in Cultural Institutions".
Guests on the panel were:
- Dr. Christian Esch (NRW KULTURsekretariat)
- Dr. Hildegard Kaluza (Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of NRW)
- Barbara Neundlinger (Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft e.V.)
- Claudia Schmitz (Deutscher Bühnenverein)
- Nanette Snoep (Rautenstrauch-Jost-Museum Cologne).
Critical Friends: Takao Baba (Pottporus e.V.), Anna Mareen Henke (Sommerblut Festival Köln), Stawrula Panagiotaki (Schauspiel Köln), Ella Steinmann (Theater Oberhausen).
