How much racism can be found in our social structures? And what do individuals and institutions have to do to engage in a critical approach to racism? These were the questions addressed at the evening event on 19 September 2023 organised by the City of Neuss as part of the Intercultural Week . Prasanna Oommen led through the programme and moderated a panel discussion on the topic.
After a welcoming speech by Reiner Breuer, Mayor of the City of Neuss, education and political scientist Prof. Karim Fereidooni gave a keynote speech on the topic of the criticism of racism.
In the subsequent panel discussion, Prasanna Oomen spoke with Merfin Demir, educator and project leader, the coordinator of the Jewish Community of Neuss Dima Sirota and Karim Fereidooni about structural racism and the different ways of dealing with it.
Cultural impulses were provided by Poetry-Slammer Abdul Kader Chahin and Dima Sirota on the guitar.
